Why Avalanche for crypto payments
Avalanche settles a stablecoin transfer in roughly a second, for a few cents of gas. Its proof-of-stake consensus reaches finality fast, and the C-Chain — the EVM-compatible contract chain — is where the stablecoin activity sits. Trader Joe, Benqi, and GMX on Avalanche all run there.
Avalanche fits a merchant whose buyers are crypto-trader retail holding AVAX, or institutional flows leaning on the chain's subnet architecture for tokenized assets. Because the C-Chain is EVM-compatible, MetaMask, Trust Wallet, OKX Wallet, and Rabby connect with a single network switch.
Supported stablecoins on Avalanche
On the C-Chain, Paymos accepts USDT and USDC — the two shown in the panel above. DAI, USD1, and XAUT are not deployed on Avalanche and are not accepted; route a buyer holding those to a chain where the token is issued. USD1, for instance, lives on Ethereum and Solana, so point that customer there.
How confirmations work on Avalanche
Avalanche reaches deterministic finality in about a second: once the network finalizes a transfer, it stays final. Paymos waits for a safe number of confirmations on the C-Chain before crediting a payment, and on a chain this fast that wait is short — a retail payment clears in seconds. The exact depth is an operational parameter Paymos tunes to conditions, not a number we publish; your dashboard shows the live status of each payment.
Fees and gas
The customer pays the network fee in AVAX. A stablecoin transfer currently runs a few cents; gas can spike briefly when on-chain activity surges. A wallet holding USDC but no AVAX still can't broadcast — it needs a little AVAX for gas.
Paymos pricing on Avalanche: 1.0% Standard, 0.3% Enterprise on request — acceptance and sweep gas sit inside that fee, with no surcharge. On withdrawal Paymos takes 0 commission and subsidises the network cost, so moving USDT or USDC to your whitelisted wallet costs you less than the chain would charge directly. It is not free — you pay a reduced network fee — but there's no second Paymos cut on the payout.
Compared to a typical crypto gateway
Most gateways reuse one EVM playbook for every chain — same confirmation count, same support gap, same shared deposit address with a memo a buyer can forget. On Avalanche, Paymos derives a fresh deposit address per invoice from BIP-44, so a payment maps to a dedicated account with nothing to tag by hand. Every state change posts an HMAC-SHA256-signed webhook, re-sent up to 11 times over roughly 32 hours until it lands; set external_order_id on the invoice and a replay maps back to the same order. And the buyer can reach a Paymos operator from the checkout while the AVAX transfer is in flight — first-line support you never have to staff.
What we don't do on Avalanche
We accept only USDT and USDC on Avalanche — no DAI, no USD1, no XAUT, since none are issued here. We support C-Chain only — not subnets, not P-Chain or X-Chain. We never swap your token or convert it to fiat: you keep the same stablecoin the buyer paid, with no off-ramp to a bank account inside Paymos. A refund is a manual outbound transfer you send — there's no customer self-service refund portal. And we don't cover the customer's inbound AVAX gas; the sender pays it.

What is Avalanche C-Chain?
Avalanche has three primary chains: X-Chain (asset exchange), P-Chain (platform / validators), C-Chain (contracts, EVM-compatible). Almost all DeFi and stablecoin activity sits on C-Chain. When people say "Avalanche payment", they almost always mean C-Chain.
Why is Avalanche so fast?
Avalanche reaches deterministic finality in about a second — far quicker than chains that wait out accumulated block depth — and a finalized transfer stays final. For a buyer that means the payment confirms while they're still on the checkout page.
Can a customer pay me from Coinbase to Avalanche?
Yes. Coinbase supports USDC withdrawals to Avalanche C-Chain. The customer picks Avalanche on withdrawal; funds arrive at your Paymos deposit address.
What gas token does Avalanche use?
AVAX. A customer paying USDC on Avalanche needs a small AVAX balance — a few cents typically covers a transfer — to broadcast it.
Are subnets part of Paymos's Avalanche support?
No. Paymos accepts deposits on C-Chain only. Subnets are independent chains with their own validator sets and stablecoin deployments; treat them as separate networks for payment purposes.
Has Avalanche ever had a chain outage?
Yes. On 23 February 2024 the primary network stalled and stopped finalizing blocks for around five hours, until validators rolled out a patched node release. Before that, the chain had run with only a brief minor halt since 2020. If block production stalls, the Paymos scanner stops advancing and holds confirmations there — a payment never reads as final off a halted chain — and resumes once finalization recovers.
