Why BSC for crypto payments

BSC carries the cheapest gas on Paymos and a deep pool of Binance-adjacent payers. BNB Smart Chain (renamed from Binance Smart Chain in 2022, still written "BSC") runs one of the highest daily transaction counts of any EVM chain and one of the largest stablecoin balances. Its users live in the Binance orbit — they hold crypto on Binance, withdraw to BSC because it clears cheaper and faster than ERC-20, and use it for everything from DeFi to peer-to-peer transfers.

Supported stablecoins on BSC

Two stablecoins are live on BSC — USDT and USDC, both BEP20. One issuer quirk is worth knowing: USDC here is Circle-bridged at 18 decimals, against the 6 it uses on most chains. Paymos normalizes that into canonical units in the balance API, so the decimal difference never reaches your integration.

How confirmations work on BSC

BSC now produces a block roughly every half-second — the Fermi hard fork cut block time to ~0.45s in January 2026, on top of the Maxwell upgrade that brought fast finality the year before. Rather than count an arbitrary number of blocks, Paymos waits for the chain's finalized tag, so a confirmed payment is irreversible under BSC's own finality rule. With native fast finality the wait is a second or two regardless of ticket size — a $30 order and a $30,000 invoice both clear once the network finalizes the block.

Fees and gas

The customer pays the network fee in BNB. A typical BEP20 stablecoin transfer currently costs under a cent — the cheapest acceptance rail on Paymos. A wallet with zero BNB cannot broadcast even if it holds plenty of USDT, so customers funding their BSC wallet from outside Binance should hold a small BNB balance.

Paymos pricing on BSC: 1.0% Standard, 0.3% Enterprise on request. That one rate already covers acceptance and the on-chain sweep — there's no separate gas line. Whatever the buyer sends lands in your balance untouched: Paymos never auto-swaps it or off-ramps it to fiat. And the BNB a wallet burns for gas is the sender's to fund — that's a chain-level cost, not something Paymos tops up.

Frequently asked questions

Why does USDC on BSC use 18 decimals while elsewhere it uses 6?

BEP-20 defaults to 18 decimals matching the native BNB token. Circle's USDC on Ethereum and most other chains uses 6. When the Binance Bridge issued USDC on BSC, it adopted 18. Both versions hold the dollar peg via Circle's reserves — only the on-chain representation differs. Paymos normalizes display amounts in the balance API.

Is BSC the same as BNB Chain?

Yes. Binance renamed Binance Smart Chain to BNB Chain in 2022, but the practical name "BSC" stuck in developer and trader communities. The chain id, contracts, and ecosystem are unchanged.

Why is BSC so much cheaper than Ethereum?

BSC trades decentralization for throughput: a smaller validator set, sub-second blocks, and low per-transaction overhead keep gas under a cent. The cost of that speed is concentration — the validator set sits closer to Binance's influence than Ethereum's broadly distributed one, a different security and trust model. For accepting a stablecoin payment that finalizes in a second or two, the trade-off is usually worth it; for holding large balances long-term, weigh it.

Can a customer pay me USDT BSC from outside Binance?

Yes. Any BEP-20-capable wallet (MetaMask configured for BSC, Trust Wallet, Binance Wallet, OKX Wallet) can send USDT BEP20 to your deposit address. The customer does not have to be a Binance user — they just need to be on the BSC network in their wallet.

Has BSC ever had a chain-level outage?

Yes — once, deliberately. On 6–7 October 2022 validators coordinated a multi-hour halt after the BSC Token Hub bridge exploit minted unauthorized BNB worth roughly $100M, pausing the chain until a patched client shipped. Outside that incident BSC has seen only brief congestion-driven slowdowns. If block production stalls for any reason, Paymos scanner workers hold confirmations until the chain resumes — pending invoices either clear late or expire on their TTL, and no balance is affected.
